SandyBlue has continuously pushed to be a leader in the Algarve villa rental space, especially during the uncertainty of the past 18 months! We like to talk about this success and share insights with property owners in the Algarve, which is why we once again partnered with the Portugal Resident to provide fortnightly discussions!
In our Algarve Resident business focus, we wanted to highlight how we became a big support for our owner partners. We briefly discussed the different ways we helped owners ensure a steady stream of rental income.

In June, when travel restrictions list changed like the wind, we outlined ways to empower the tourism industry to remain positive.
A huge trend throughout the pandemic has been the rise of in-villa services. Our team recognised this early, putting together a fantastic offering of in-villa services. These continue to grow in popularity and have been a big influence on attracting guests to book their Algarve villa getaways.
Another trend that developed once double vaccinated tourists could enter Portugal was the length of their stays. Some guests were after longer getaways, while others wanted shorter breaks. We discussed how owners could diversify their offering to accommodate this.
An important component in any villa rental strategy is dynamic marketing. The events of the pandemic have proven that you can’t simply rely on tried-and-tested marketing strategies. It’s about adapting, evolving and using a marketing approach that is clearly communicated and caters to a wider audience.
Having introduced SandyBlue ‘Longer Stays’ in April 2020, the increase in enquiries for stays of 28 days or longer has been great to see. We discuss why longer stays are important and what villa owners need to consider to cater to these guests.
The demand for an Algarve villa getaway is high. The SandyBlue team have seen an unprecedented number of bookings and enquiries for Summer 2022, with many guests determined to make the most of travel next year. This means that 2022 villa rental strategies need to be planned right now, if they haven’t been already.
What exactly is a ‘workation’? During the pandemic, there were so many different approaches to travel including longer stays, quick getaways and staycations. Is a workation just another buzzword in the travel world or are we going to see more people choosing to work remotely in warmer climates?

Here in the Algarve, it has been a year of reflection and looking ahead to a brighter 2022. It has been great to welcome guests back to the region this year, though it was important to learn from their experience to offer an even greater holiday on their next stay.
Having already been voted Europe’s hottest beach destination by the World Travel Awards this year, the Algarve is certainly gaining more positive attention from holidaymakers. However, there has been increased interest from guests seeking larger villas to accommodate a big group. In particular, we are seeing the Algarve on the top of many lists of places for big family celebrations. Milestone birthdays, weddings and anniversaries in the sun are on many 2022 resolutions lists!
