More guests are choosing the Algarve later in the year. Here’s what our data shows
For years, September and October in the Algarve have been something of an open secret.
Those who know the region well have increasingly chosen to visit later. The weather stays warm, the beaches get quieter, and the pace slows.
Now our booking data is showing the same pattern.
At SandyBlue, our analysis of confirmed Q4 arrivals from 2023 to 2025 points to growing interest in later stays, with families and larger groups among the trends we are seeing.
What our data shows
Our Q4 guest trends analysis, covering confirmed arrivals from October to December across 2023 to 2025, reveals some interesting changes in how guests are choosing to experience the Algarve.
More families are travelling later
Family bookings grew 17% in 2025, while the number of children and infants travelling increased by 25%.
It is a trend that reflects the growing appeal of the Algarve beyond the traditional summer holiday.
October half-term is a natural fit. Families can enjoy another dose of warmth before winter, with more space to explore the beaches, restaurants and activities that make the Algarve such an easy family destination.
And, of course, a private villa gives everyone the space to enjoy the holiday at their own pace.
Larger groups are choosing the Algarve too
Another trend emerging from our data is the continued importance of larger groups, with parties of nine or more forming a distinct part of our Q4 bookings.
From multi-generational family gatherings to milestone celebrations and groups of friends travelling together, the reasons for choosing a larger villa are varied. What they have in common is a desire to spend more time together, in one place.
Our data also shows that the median travelling party across all bookings is four guests. It is a useful reminder that choosing the right villa is not simply about bedroom count. It is about finding a space that genuinely works for the people travelling together.
A different way to experience the Algarve
Taken together, these trends point towards something broader.
The Algarve is no longer just about the height of summer. Guests are finding more reasons to travel later, whether that means an October half-term escape, a celebration with friends or getting the whole family together under one roof.
And travelling later brings its own rewards.
The Algarve in autumn
Twenty years of SandyBlue bookings have taught us that the Algarve in September and October is far more than an alternative to a summer holiday. For many of our returning guests, it is one of the best times of year to visit.
The light is softer and more golden. The pace is more relaxed. Beaches are quieter, restaurants are easier to enjoy at leisure, and there is more space to experience the Algarve at your own pace.
A private villa makes even more sense at this time of year, offering privacy, space and the freedom to shape each day exactly as you choose.
It is the same Algarve you love, just a little quieter.
We still have availability across September and into October. If the trends have inspired you to experience the Algarve later in the year, the villas are waiting.
