If you are a traveller with mobility limitations, elderly, or have some specific needs, arranging a vacation can be exhausting. There are so many more questions to be answered:- Where can you stay where the doors open to 80cms (31”) wide? Does the toilet have a grab rail? Is there a wheelchair friendly hob and sink? Are there going to be lots of steps? Is there a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor?
In our effort to offer more and more innovative and quality tourism at SandyBlue, we provide information on our fab “easy-access villas”. Villa Chrysalis is the perfect villa for your family, children and friends as the villa has an internal elevator and is suitable for both small children and mobility impaired. Take a look at a stunning ground floor, easy access apartment Verbena One happy holiday maker said “We will definitely come back because it was so easy!”
Many of our villas have bedrooms on the ground floor too. Villa Areia Azul won’t disappoint and is surrounded by beautiful aromatic pine forests. The development is within easy reach of the famous golf courses of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo as well as being close to miles and miles of golden beaches. There is a small step over the base of the patio doors but aside from this the living area is 1 level and there is a downstairs bedroom. Many of the SandyBlue luxurious properties in the Varandas do Lago area also have ground floor bedrooms. Check out Villa Bonita, and Casa de Alegria
SandyBlue can put you in touch with a mobility equipment rental company, wheelchair transport, airport transfers, nursing/medical care and any special needs oriented services as well as rent-a-car companies with hand drive or “wheelchair-fits-in” adapted cars.
Going on accessible holidays is now easy to achieve. In many areas, the traditional Algarvian (bumpy!) cobbles have been replaced by smooth paving and the local Câmeras (County Councils) of the Algarve have worked hard to update beach access with most now having ramps as well as amphibious “floating” chairs. Wheelchair accessible blue flag beaches such as Vilamoura, Quarteira and Vale de Lobo often include lifeguard assistance into the sea when beaches are in season! If you would like to make use of the amphibious chairs then contact the lifeguard upon arrival at the beach and arrangements will be made from there to enable you to lie back, relax and drift in the clear blue of the Algarve sea… thinking about what delicious local fare you are going to treat yourself to later on. There are so many great restaurants here in the SandyBlue area around Almancil to choose from where you won’t be frustrated by entry challenges. Always wise to check before you book though!
Restricted mobility or disability needn’t limit your sports and social activities whilst on holiday either. There are a great number of activities on offer, including horse riding, sedway rides in the cultural quater of Faro and on the Ria Formosa, golf, track events, bowls, archery and you can even create a lifetime of memories with a swim with dolphins!
At SandyBlue we will work hard in the search for your perfect, easy access holiday accommodation and stress free break in the sun. Contact us with a list of your specific needs and our team will be proactive and practical in understanding your requirements.
