Accommodation Details

After a beautiful country drive, which takes you past plenty of fields full of orange and lemon trees and lots of quaint little farmhouses with original water mills, you reach the double gates that take you up the drive to the brow of the hill and this country oasis called Monte das Figueiras, a Portuguese estate style property near the picturesque village of Moncarapacho and 20 minutes from the beaches of Fuzeta and the islands.

The newly built main house (‘fazenda’) immediately invites you in by way of authentic and antique imported Bali double doors leading to the double height entrance hall.

This is the heart of the property, hence the large round family table with chairs and antique teakwood benches, seated in the 8 meters high hallway leading to the open plan kitchen with modern steam oven, induction cooking, red and black granite dresser and hand painted tiles and an open fire place. Large wooden French doors open up to a pergola covered terrace with wrought iron and glass tables and chairs. The large stairway in the hall takes you up to a mezzanine with library, underneath the wood feature ceiling with indirect lighting and from there via the landing to the cozy living room with seating around an open fire. Two large balconies offer views over the rolling hills and the double French doors take you out on to a partly covered wide terrace with BBQ and outside kitchen part. From here you have an almost 360 degrees view, to the sea in the South and the mountains in the North. A few steps down from here and you are at the pool area, which, because of the sloping land, is also only a few steps from the ground floor level.

The ground floor level further features 4 bedrooms in total, all with direct access to outdoor terraces and seating areas: a double bedroom with en suite bathroom in the ‘fazenda’, featuring a bath with a view, separate double shower, toilet and bidet all tiled with antique hand painted tiles. Two bedrooms in the annex farm style house (‘quinta’) each with 2 single beds and sharing a Moroccan style mosaic shower room with double marble washbasins. Here is also a large atelier/games room with open fire place and wooden French doors to the terraces. The corridor follows through to a small kitchenette which serves the atelier doubling up as a large games room with seating area and office space with internet access.

Outside

Attached to the house you’ll find the ‘Capela’, the 4th separate double bedroom and en suite bathroom with large walk-in shower, double marble washbasins, toilet and bidet. This bedroom also gives access through wooden French doors to a lovely tranquil seating area outside. The double front doors are originally from a monastery.

The green granite swimming pool has been designed so water flows over the different levels into a 3 meter deep centre area. It then overflows into a shallow children’s pool and circulates back into the main pool, heating the water by the sunshine as it flows underneath the terraces.

The entire estate which is completely fenced and secured, breathes a sense of tranquility, the only sounds coming from the birds and the crickets. The large private property of almost a hectare is offering lovely landscapes and original Portuguese ‘calçada’roads. It’s no surprise that the owner is an artist (www.willkellermann.com) as the surrounding gardens and hilly landscape with distant sea views are like picture postcards itself. Spring and summer bring a sea of wild flowers just waiting to be brought to canvass.

Local Area

9 holes practice course 5 min up the road. 3 fantastic courses nearby. Tavira old town on the edge of the river Ségua with the original Roman bridge, citywalls built by King Dinis and a Moorisch castle with beautiful gardens. Many churches – Tavira counts about 30 churches – and even more wonderful restaurants.

Further up the road the enchanting fishing village of Santa Luzia. Cacela Velha has a church build on a rock above the sea. Fuzeta with – because of the island off the coast - and ‘inland’ sheltered beach – perfect for small children, or the ‘not so sure about the sea’. Take the pond to Fuzeta Beach with endless sandy shores.

Pega do Inverno is a natural lake, river and waterfall hidden away in a nature reserve. July and August gets quite busy here with picnicking families, but it’s so entertaining to watch the younger ones jump and dive off the rocks high above the water level.

Or Olhao with the renovated market halls by the harbor side; fresh fish, fruit and veg every morning of the week. Take a ferry to one of the islands anytime of the day!

The border to Spain is only 30 min away and add another hour and your in beautiful Seville!

No mass tourism in any of the above areas, just beautiful landscapes, miles of orange growths and the best sandy beaches in the area. All that just 20 min from the airport.

 

Luxuries The swimming pool has been built to make the most of the sunshine. The terrace was built in a special way to work with the sunshine as a natural heating system for the pool keeping this at a constant tempreture.
